A Landmark Moment in India's History

On November 26, 1949, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Constitution, along with other leaders, put pen to paper on one of the world’s longest and most detailed constitutions. The Constitution of India, which outlines the rights and duties of citizens, the organization of government, and the fundamental principles of governance, has been the bedrock of India’s democracy.

A Day for Reflection and Education

The observance of Constitution Day is an opportunity to reflect on the principles enshrined in the Constitution, such as justice, equality, liberty, and fraternity. These ideals were crucial in guiding the country through its post-independence transition, ensuring that India would be a democracy with a robust legal framework capable of protecting the rights of its citizens.

Constitutional Values: A Pillar of India’s Unity

Advocate Naga Lakshmi, in her message on  Constitution Day, emphasized that the Constitution is not just a legal document but a living testament to the vision of India's founders. "The Constitution symbolizes our collective aspirations and ideals. It has been a guidepost for the country as we progress on our path of inclusive growth and sustainable development," she said.

Commitment to Democracy and Human Rights

Constitution Day is also an occasion to reaffirm India's commitment to its democratic principles. The Constitution is a safeguard against authoritarianism and provides a framework for governance that is transparent, accountable, and participatory. It enshrines fundamental rights such as freedom of speech, equality before the law, and the right to life and liberty, which are central to India’s democratic ethos.

Engaging the Younger Generation

In recent years, there has been a concerted effort to engage India’s youth with the Constitution, recognizing that the younger generation will be responsible for carrying forward the country’s democratic values.

Advocate Naga Lakshmi Devi also said that “ On this National Constitution Day, citizens of India renew their commitment to uphold the Constitution values of justice, liberty, and equality.”Advocate V.
