What’s behind Maharashtra’s growing appetite for industry professors?
India’s universities are increasingly appointing industry veterans as Professors of Practice under UGC guidelines issued in 2022. While Tamil Nadu leads in such hires, Maharashtra ranks close behind, drawing on its strong industrial base. With 1,841 appointments nationwide, the scheme aims to blend academic learning with real-world expertise, though central universities remain slow to adopt it.
