Michigan bans smartphones during class: What the new law means for students
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has signed a law restricting smartphone use during instructional time in public schools, effective from the 2026-2027 academic year. This bipartisan measure aligns with a national trend, aiming to reduce distractions and improve student focus. While phones are allowed on campus, their use during lessons will be prohibited, with exceptions for emergencies and medically necessary devices.
